It's as though grief has a preset time limit and people only have so much patience for grieving. Unfortunately, that sort of thing can make the surviving spouse feel even more isolated and shut out. It is very helpful when the support group instead realizes that grief may take a long time to deal with and is willing to let the survivor honestly express their emotions rather than trying to pretend to be ok in order to get needed social interaction.
